Transform A Fall Day Into An Amazing Autumn Getaway

While many visitors make the trip to Niagara to take part in the region’s awesome array of festivals and special events, seasoned pros know the secret to making a great day away even better is booking an overnight stay. Adding a night or two to your Niagara escape allows for completely different, and equally delightful, experiences on days two and three. Follow the getaway recipe below for a beautiful blend of Niagara’s fall events, harvest flavours, and stunning autumn scenery.

DAY 1

----------

Time your trip around one of Niagara’s fantastic fall events. The Niagara Grape & Wine Festival, for example, offers a wide range of activities over multiple September weekends, including the Discovery Pass touring program and a jam-packed weekend of fun at St. Catharines’ historic Montebello Park, featuring a massive wine-and-food tasting village, live music, and more.

If you’re taking advantage of a trip timed with one of the Discovery Pass touring weekends, consider consolidating your first three winery choices in and around Niagara-on-the-Lake. After you’ve visited those wineries, you’ll still have lots of time for a leisurely stroll through Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Old Town to browse the unique collection of shops and galleries. Not visiting during a Discovery Pass weekend? Check out touring and event options available through Wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

After your winery touring, check in at The Charles Hotel, a whitewashed mansion in Old Town that will instantly transport you back to an era of gracious hospitality, architectural elegance and luxurious serenity. Have an early à la carte dinner at Revé, where farm-to-table cuisine gets the Sicilian treatment, resulting in delicious options like Fettuccine with Chanterelle mushrooms, hen jus and Niagara 'Nduja.

After dinner, catch an evening performance at The Shaw Festival, where the regular season runs through early October and special holiday performances are offered in November and December.

DAY 2

----------

Start your second day with a morning stroll to the Queen’s Royal Park Gazebo, followed by a light breakfast to leave lots of room for more Discovery Pass touring. Avo & Co. is an excellent choice for healthy smoothie bowls and delicious toasted sandwiches.

After breakfast, make your way to the Niagara Benchlands to complete your Discovery Pass touring program experience. Not visiting during a Discovery Pass weekend? Check out touring and event options available through Niagara Benchlands Wineries, or consider a guided cycling tour offered by ebike The Bench.

When you’ve completed your winery visits, head to one of the area’s welcoming outdoor beer gardens for an autumn afternoon flight and bite. The Brook has a scenic open-air patio with greenhouse charm and stunning views of the Niagara Bench and Lake Ontario. Bench Brewing is another excellent choice.

Check in and freshen up for dinner in one of the cozy vineyard cabins at Al Borgo Estates Winery. Unwind after your busy day in wine country enjoying the complimentary bottle of wine that’s included with every stay! For dinner, the fabulous restaurant at Vineland Estates Winery is less than 10 km away. The five-course Chef’s Creative Menu changes daily to showcase seasonal ingredients sourced from local farms and foragers with wine pairings carefully selected by chefs and the Estate’s wine professionals.

DAY 3

----------

Start your final morning with coffee and pastries at RPM Bakehouse in historic Jordan Village. This sister property of Restaurant Pearl Morissette is known for its slow-fermented sourdough bread, crisp, buttery pastries, and savoury delights, all made with carefully selected heritage grains sown and grown in Ontario. Bring your coffee along and walk along the village’s main street to take in the historic homes and buildings. The Twenty Valley Trail, which leads to nearby Sho’aríshon Park, is accessible via the set of wooden stairs behind the Lincoln Museum and Cultural Centre, if you’d like to walk a little more.

On your way back home, stop by The Watering Can, a massive European-inspired flower market bursting with flowers and plants, with a charming café serving everything from casual lunches to sweet treats and brunch favourites.
