While Niagara-on-the-Lake may be one of the country’s oldest communities, when it comes to offering activities that kids adore, it’s absolutely young at heart. Here are some fun ways to experience the first capital of Upper Canada with your favourite little travellers.

Enjoy a Family-Friendly Performance at Shaw Festival Theatre

Introduce the young people to the magic of live theatre by attending one of The Shaw’s kid-focused productions. Be sure to check the calendar to see if the performance you’re seeing offers a family-friendly interactive pre-show workshop.

Learn Niagara-on-the-Lake’s History By Bike

Families with children 12 years and older can rent or bring bikes and helmets and take part in a 10-km guided cycling tour offered by the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum that provides an overview of the Town’s early history with stops at significant sites, including The Commons, Fort George, Navy Hall, the Dock Area, and Fort Mississauga.

Find Some Fun Ways To Cool Down

Whether it’s taking little ones to play in the wading pool at Simcoe Park or Virgil Splash Pad, cooling off with your bigger kids at a drop-in swim at the King Street or St. David’s pools, or enjoying a family paddleboard lesson with your teens on the Niagara River, summertime brings all kinds of fun ways to make a splash in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Taste Your Way Through Old Town’s Treat Scene

Who says you can’t have more than one sweet treat a day on vacation? Stroll down Queen Street and taste the delicious selection of wares at local bakeries, ice cream shops, gelato makers, and chocolate shops.

Get To Know The Ghosts of Fort George

Older kids will adore the thrill and spine-tingling chills inspired by the haunting stories told during the guided, candlelit ghost tour through historic Fort George.

Take a Rip Through The Niagara River’s Rapids

Whirlpool Jet Boat offers a choice of two tours from the Queenston Boat Ramp that both follow the same 45-minute round-trip route into the Niagara Gorge and through the Class V Rapids at Devil’s Hole. Children at least 40 inches tall can take Whirlpool Jet Boat’s DRY Freedom Jet trip, and children 13 years and older who are at least 100 pounds can take the Wet Freedom Jet trip.
