Niagara Bed and Breakfasts That Offer Truly Storied Stays

For those looking to take their passion for history to the next level, spending a cozy night as a guest at one of Niagara’s most historic homes is a fantastic way to connect with the past. Many of Niagara’s bed and breakfasts showcase the region’s rich history through architecture, decor, and the sharing of stories about the diverse range of characters who once lived within the very same walls.

Niagara-on-the-Lake

As the first capital of Upper Canada and the stage for so many important War of 1812 moments, Niagara-on-the-Lake overflows with history. Brockamour Manor Bed and Breakfast Country Inn is a designated heritage property right across the road from Fort George’s Butlers Barracks. Its name is a nod to the claim that it was the home of Sir Issac Brock's true love and the one stop he made to say a brief goodbye as he raced to the site of the Battle of Queenston Heights.

Niagara Falls

Built in 1910 as the home of Hugh Wilson, Superintendent of one of the world’s first hydroelectric generating stations, Lion’s Head Bed and Breakfast’s Edwardian Arts and Crafts design features leaded-crystal windows, a chestnut staircase, and rare pocket doors. It is one of the few buildings that is completely original, with no restorations.

Niagara’s South Coast

The Yellow Door Bed & Breakfast is less than 2 km from the former site of the Crystal Beach Amusement Park, which opened in 1888 and, at its peak in the 1940s and 1950s, had about 20,000 visitors daily. While the amusement park is no longer there, this bed and breakfast’s proximity to the beach makes it easy to step into the friendly hustle and bustle of this charming Lake Erie beach town. 

Niagara Benchlands

Bonnybank Bed and Breakfast is a 1919 American Tudor Revival home made of red Grimsby sandstone, reclaimed from the nearby Great Western Railway piers. Situated right next door to an owl sanctuary, guests can listen to the call of the owls at night and rent canoes and kayaks during the day from the nearby Niagara Rowing School & Paddlesports Centre to spot songbirds, bald eagles, and many marsh inhabitants that call Jordan Harbour home.

St. Catharines

Built between 1909 and 1910, as the Victorian Age was coming to an end, Springbank House sits on the original property of the famous Springbank House Hotel and Spa, which had been transformed into Ridley College’s first location in 1889. This storied site still earns a salute from Ridley students as they pass each year during the school’s beloved Church Parade.
