In the small and charming Village of Jordan is a quaint and beloved winery called Cave Spring Cellars. Only 20 minutes from Niagara Falls, most people drive by Jordan, a little treasure of a town, on their way to Buffalo or Niagara-On-The-Lake seeking an authentic Niagara experience.
One of Niagara’s Premier Wineries
But Cave Spring Cellars also offers a uniquely authentic Niagara experience. In fact, the place originated back in 1871, and it features Ontario’s longest functioning underground wine cellars. This winery compliments the surrounding motel, shops and restaurants, and yet it also stands as a site to see in its own right. You can enjoy a fine dining meal serving Cave Spring wine at a nearby restaurant.
Or schedule a tour through Cave Spring’s large underground cellars and learn about the history of the winery, their efforts at sustainability, “cool-climate winegrowing,” and the classic relationship between excellent wine and artisanal cheese. And if you’re looking for a spontaneous excursion in wine country, you can also catch one of their public tours throughout the summer. Not up for a tour? Just browse the wine displays throughout the building.
You absolutely have to taste their award-winning wine. This is a mid sized operation featuring roughly 6-8 tasting stations serving up Chardonnay Dolomite, Pinot Noire, Cabernet Franc, and their signature Riesling. Their specialties come in limited quantities and make for a wholly unique wine tasting experience. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about the art of making wine and the history of Cave Spring. Plus there’s easy parking right across the street.
But you may not want to leave once you exit this winery, as there are plenty of other attractions to visit in Jordan just outside Cave Spring Cellars. Go for a pleasant stroll down Main Street and check out their craft, antique and gift shops. Or stop by at the Jordan Historical Museum overlooking the Twenty Mile Creek Valley and view their picturesque grounds and restorations of 19th century architecture. This is a great way to immerse yourself in the local culture and get a true taste of Niagara.
